Bournemouth Air back in 2009

18/11/2008 19:39 by Seb

Recent pic of me A joint statement from Councillor Stephen MacLoughlin Leader of the Council and Mike Francis Chairman of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board; "The event has been such a tremendous success and so incredibly popular with our residents, visitors and businesses that we are delighted to announce and confirm that Bournemouth Air Festival will be back for 2009."

The provisional dates for 2009 will be 20th – 23rd August.

Cllr John Beesley, Deputy Leader of the Council and member of the Bournemouth Tourism Management Board said; "The two year dream of a spectacular Air Festival has become a magnificent reality in the last 4-days to the delight of audiences young and old and from near and far. After the investment and hard work of the people involved – their vision, commitment and dedication it would be unthinkable to not be planning enthusiastically for 2009. Bournemouth Seafront, Gardens and Town Centre have proved to be the perfect arena for what is now the country's biggest free Air Festival." Remember to visit bournemouthair.co.uk for details and updates as they happen.

The 2008 official Air Festival DVD production is now well underway and should be available very soon.

The DVD can be pre-ordered from Hallmark Productions at a cost of £14.99 including free postage and package.

It will also be available from the Tourist Information Centre on Westover Road.

The DVD will include footage from the four day festival which took place from 28th-31st August, along with interviews with pilots and people involved with the success of the Air Festival.

Pre-orders can be made via the Hallmark website by emailing airfestival@hallmarkproductions.com with your details to recieve information about how to order.

Back to normality!

02/09/2008 08:42 by Seb

Recent pic of me With all the celebrations of the Bournemouth Air over, it's time to return to our working and studying lives. Oh the grim face of reality is setting in! Even the weather has found its way back to Spain and left us with rain and wind.

I hope you enjoyed the festival as much as we did. Saturday was one of my personal highlights with a quality show and lucious sunshine. My compliments go out to those ladies dangling off those pre historic stunt planes and who can forget those Barclays blue airplanes sponsored by Barclays bank using Barclays trained pilots. Did I mention these airplanes were kindly sponsored by Barclays bank? Haha!

I think events like this is exactly what Bournemouth needs to give the tourism and night time economy a boost. The council has always been reactive but I think they hit the nail on the head with this one. Hopefully they can keep it up like this.

So what's in store for us? Well we are still putting through new developments and new people are joining the website each day. We're planning a little party for when we reach a 1000 members so if you read this, why not join Bournemouth By Night, upload your photo and comment on some of the venues that you've been to.

I'll add some Air Festival photos later but feel free to send us yours. You can do this by sending an email to bournemouthairfestival@bournemouthbynight.com.

And lastly, just wanted to leave you with this video of the Bournemouth Air Festival, courtesy of PlanesTV:

Bournemouth Air Festival 2008

27/08/2008 11:52 by Seb

Recent pic of me I thought I'd write a little something about this upcoming event this weekend, as it is said to be one of the highlight events this summer in Bournemouth, attracting almost half a million (yes, you read it.. 500,000) people from the area.

The Bournemouth Air Festival is a four day event held between August 28th and August 31st and will feature live air displays.

Bournemouth has always been home to the Red Arrows, the Royal Airforce's elite pack of daredevils which happily risk their lives for the sake of spectator pleasure. Every year during the summer they give away a spectacular show around Bournemouth pier, always attracting a huge crowd.

This year, the Red Arrows will be part of a bigger event called the Air Festival. Not only will the Arrows try not to crash into eachother, there will be beach displays, fireworks, attractions, live music and more airplanes such as the Avro Vulcan B2 XH558 which looks like something out of a Battlestar Galactica episode.

The event is completely free of charge and definitely worth the visit, even if you are from outside Bournemouth and have never experienced the Red Arrows display before. Sure it will probably come out of our council tax but I'm not bothered with that. This is a solid event that will get another buzz going in Bournemouth and will have a positive impact on the economy at the same time.

I hope you will all enjoy this festival and support these community events in Bournemouth. And if you happen to shoot any nice photographs, you can e-mail these to us at bournemouthairfestival@bournemouthbynight.com. We will post the best ones with credits on this website.

Website improvements

29/07/2008 23:37 by Seb

Recent pic of me We've been quite busy lately making significant improvements to the website. One of the main features that is now completely working and up and running (fingers crossed, knock on wood, pray to Jesus/Allah, etc.) is our photo upload funtionality.

If all is well, you should be able to upload multiple photos to your profile at once. We'll also be sending a mailing about this next week, when more features have been added to the website.

We've also splurged out on a new server with the money we won off some old lady in a poker game. So goodbye inheritance, hello faster loading times!

At the moment, the server gerbils are working overtime to get the forum up and running and to get alot of new features in, such as:

- Groups (join, create groups)
- Improve search, browsing for others
- Games (to waste some more of your time :p)
- More interaction and visual stuff
- A heap more events of course
- & much much more…

We'll let you know where, when and how things are progressing, but for now, feel free to log in and upload your photos.

UPDATE 30/07/08: Fixed birthdate bug in the edit your profile page. Please make sure your birthdate is correctly set.

Sounds of Brazil

24/07/2008 18:38 by Seb

Recent pic of me Hi guys!

It's been a while since the last blog post but I hope you're all fine. Two weeks ago we had the pleasure of being in Landmarc at the Brazillian carnaval party; Mangueira!

It was very entertaining and most of all... very loud!! I wouldn't even know how the real thing would sound like but if it's anything like this I think we should book a trip to Brazil next month.

You can see a small sample video below and more videos will follow in the future.

On the 27th, there is another Brazillian party in Landmarc, this time with chilled out Reggae music. For more information about this event, please click here. A big shout out to Daniela for organising the parties and we hope to meet all of you there.

New investment to make Bournemouth safer

13/05/2008 16:24 by Seb

Recent pic of me Even though it's pretty such out here in sunny Bournemouth, Bournemouth Borough Council has invested £1.9 million pounds in CCTV monitoring equipment in the last 3 years. Yes, big brother is watching you!

But the high definition CCTV cameras have helped local police significantly with arresting those that like to ruin it for the rest of us. The CCTV cameras are placed all over town centre and near the sea front and are monitored 24 hours a day, something to consider next time you are taking a sanitary break against your favourite tree.

Martyn Webster, Dorset Police's CCTV Liaison Officer, said: "In the past month, (April), Dorset Police has successfully been able to use CCTV evidence to arrest, charge and process 62 people for offences ranging from assault and criminal damage to indecent exposure and assault on police. 28 of those arrests were sparked by calls made by CCTV staff to the police. These figures are testament to the efficiency of the system and I hope are proving to be a deterrent to potential offenders."

So there you go, if Mr. Webster is happy than I guess it's a good thing we're being watched 24/7. There are also other initiatives in Bournemouth aimed at improving the quality of nightlife and enhancing street safety. The Bournemouth Town Watch committee for example, exists of member from the local authorities and council as well as night time venue owners. They have improved door staff and safety on the streets at night, making Bournemouth a nicer place for all of us. More about the Town Watch is to follow.

Another night of Old School at 176!

22/04/2008 09:27 by Seb

Recent pic of me We have another Old School party tonight in 176! Last week was great although because of the cold weather few people were out in town. Today the weather is great and we expect a good turnup!

So if you are in town tonight, come on in and say hello! We love Old School '80s and '90s music and we know you do too.

Streamline Warrens Taxis

Streamline Warrens Taxis

Our good friends over at Streamline Warrens Taxis are now supporting Bournemouth By Night as well! This is great news for you because if you quote "Bournemouth By Night" when you book a taxi with them, you receive a 10% discount on your fare! How's that for a cheap ride home? A big thanks goes out to Streamline.

Plans for May 2008

Since our re-launch party at the end of March we have been busy pretty much every day with Bournemouth By Night. Sure enough there are some bugs to work out but overall we are very happy with how the website evolves. Every day people make use of the enquiry forms to contact venues in Bournemouth and we are seeing more and more feedback left at the venues. Keep leaving feedback to improve nightlife in Bournemouth, I can assure you it does and will make a difference!

Finally, tell your friends about the website. In May we will organise giveaways for those who refer the most people to the website.

16/04/2008 15:24 by Seb

We plan to run a nice contest in May 2008 for those who refer the most people to this website. We've already got a nice pack of prizes and it's expanding every time. So make sure you stay tuned for more info.

A few quick updates

The BIC (Bournemouth International Centre) has now been added to the website including all their events for this year in both the main building and the Pavilion. You can easily search through them using the search function.

We've made some improvements to the website and are still working hard to get the forums up and running as well as improving the photo uploads. More soon to come!

Bournemouth Night Time Bus

10/04/2008 15:14 by Seb

Recent pic of me In June this year, Wilts & Dorset buses will start a night time bus service to take you from the square to Poole, Charminster and Boscombe.

The buses will run every half-hour on Fridays and Saturdays between June and December initially.

Bournemouth Borough Council wants to review the bus times after this period with Wilts & Dorset to see if it has been successful.

Some taxi drivers are likely to be less happy with the plans for a night time bus, as this will affect their business undoubtly.

We'll keep you up-to-date on the situation. Whichever form of transport you choose, be it a taxi, bus or a lift from friends, make sure you don't drink and drive.

A few quick updates

08/04/2008 11:56 by Seb

Recent pic of me Hi guys!

Just wanted to send a quick update as to how things are going. We are still working on improving the photo upload functionality. The problem is that the system doesn't like large photo files, but you will be able to upload photos that are a bit smaller. Just wait for a few minutes until your photo is uploaded and all should be fine.

The search is NOW COMPLETED and you will be able to search through events and look for other members. Cool!

We are also organising our first Old School party in 176 on the 15th this month! Everybody is invited so come around and share a drink with us! Click here to view this event. Be there or be square!!!

Hey invite all your friends to the website. The forums will be up and running next week and you can all participate.

Have you left feedback recently? If you've signed up you can leave feedback on every venue in Bournemouth. Your feedback not only helps others make the right choice when going out, it will also help the venues improve customer service. So what are you waiting for? If you're not a member yet, click here to register for free!

Thank you very much for a great night!

01/04/2008 12:26 by Seb

Recent pic of me Yesterday, we celebrated the re-launch of our website in Klute, Bournemouth. We kicked the evening off with a champagne reception and around 9:15 followed a quick presentation. Klute was very kind to let us host the event in their venue and made sure that everybody had plenty of sushi to eat and champagne to sip.

A special thanks goes out to Carribean Connexion who played an excellent live set with Salsa, Merenque en Reggea music for more than 1.5 hours. Whenever there is a party in town where they perform, I'd highly recommend you see them.

Website improvements

We are aware that some things might not work optimally yet. We've only just launched this website and with anything it comes with some minor bugs. We are working every day to sort these out and will make improvements in the search system, the photos and the forum very soon.

Thanks guys

We would like to send a thanks out to everybody who came to our party yesterday and to our DJs who flew in from France just to play for us. Stay tuned for the first Bournemouth By Night event held in April! More info soon!
